Hog roast and a brand new beer will be stars of the show at the Frome Beer Festival this weekend at the Cheese and Grain.
South West brewery, St Austell Ales, has a special small batch brewery that it uses to try out new recipes for its famous beers. When they think they’ve found a winner, they offer it to a selected market; in this case Frome beer drinkers, to get their opinions.
The festival’s Mary Macarthur says, “The new beer is a pale ale called Hop in the Dock. It is a low gravity beer, making it a perfect start to the evening before going on to the stronger brews.
“The list of all the beers on offer at Frome’s second Beer Festival on March 17th and 18th is now available and can be found at the official website atwww.fromebeerfest.co.uk.
“This year, the choices have been increased to 43, with ten different ciders. Visitors will find some old favourites, the best sellers at the 2016 Beer Festival, and many new experiences, particularly from local brewers.
“A new feature this year will be the hog roast. It will be served from the food area where the Six Nations Rugby matches will be shown on the large screen television.
“Last year’s festival was a roaring success, with visitors commenting on the tremendous feeling of goodwill and fun it generated. They left the Cheese and Grain requesting a second one this year and groups came from as far away as Yeovil to enjoy the experience.”
“People stopped us in the street asking when the next festival would be held,” said co-organiser Mac Macarthur. Will George, the other organiser remarked, “New breweries start up on a fairly regular basis, and old trusted brewers will often offer a new beer at a festival to test the reaction of drinkers.” He and Mac of course choose the best for Frome’s Festival.
