INSPIRATIONAL speakers, including the first British woman to climb Everest, will be giving talks in Mells next weekend to raise money for the upkeep of a local church.
St Andrews Church in the village will be hosting the fundraiser on Saturday 3rd September from 2pm. Mountaineer and journalist Rebecca Stephens, MBE; historian Anthony Russell; and perfumer Anastasia Brozler will speak in separate events at the church.
Rebecca Stephens was the first British woman to climb Mount Everest when she completed the expedition in 1993. She has also climbed the Seven Summits – the highest mountain in each continent around the world.
Rebecca will speak from 2pm to 3pm with time for a Q&A afterwards.
Anastasia Brozler, a perfumer, will talk on the historic journey through fragrance history, tapping in to today’s olfactory trends and challenges.
Anastasia’s talk will run from 4pm to 5pm.
Anthony Russell is a cultural historian, founder of peace and arts charity the Chandos Foundation, and part of the Government’s All Party Parliamentary Group on Democracy in Burma.
Anthony will talk from 7.20pm to 8.45pm, giving short lectures entitled ‘What is civilization’, ‘Blenheim Palace the Agony and the Ecstasy’, and ‘An Ethos for Social Change’. There will be a Q&A afterwards.
There will be refreshments during intervals between talks.
Each event is separately ticketed, and each costs £10 per adult and £5 per child. Family discount packages are available upon request.
