Fans of early music are in for a treat at Christ Church in Frome this Spring.
On Saturday 28th March at 7.30pm, the internationally-renowned lutenist Elizabeth Kenny will join His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts (HMSC) to perform 16th and 17th Century instrumental music from around Europe at the church on Christchurch Street West.
HMSC, one of the UK’s leading period instrument ensembles, formed in 1982, regularly perform concerts in the UK, USA and Europe and have an extensive discography featuring choirs such as the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra, The Sixteen and the Choir of King’s College Cambridge, with whom they are currently recording a forthcoming CD.
Concert organiser and HMSC cornettist Helen Roberts said, “I’m delighted that we can bring HMSC and Elizabeth Kenny together for this event, right here in Frome.
“We’re looking forward to performing this special programme of music by composers from Spain, England, Germany and Italy, including Giovanni Gabrieli, William Byrd, Diego Ortiz and Samuel Scheidt. It’ll be a really special evening for fans of live music.”
The concert forms part of this year’s South West Early Winds Weekend (28th and 29th March), an annual workshop weekend for amateur players of early wind instruments which returns to Frome for its second year.
Anyone interested in taking part in the workshops can find further information at www.helen -roberts.com.
