plans to move Frome’s market, which were criticised for moving too fast without local consultation, will now take account of the views of local traders and shoppers. Consultation has already started at Frome’s market, to gather local opinion.
Mendip District Council’s Cabinet recently approved the Frome Market project progression and agreement to the next phase of the project to commence, which will see consultation take place in and around the market and online.
Officers from Mendip District Council were at the market on Wednesday 8th February to carry out the first stage of consultation, which was an exercise to gather some initial opinions about the potential trial relocation of the market.
Cllr Philip Ham, portfolio holder for governance, assets and public spaces at Mendip District Council said, “This first phase of consultation offers a chance for people to get involved in the project and share their thoughts with the council. We are keen for this to be a partnership approach and are working with Frome Town Council and other organisations across the town to ensure that all ideas and proposals are considered.
“Nothing is set in stone and Cabinet simply agreed to move forward with the project of which the next stage was always intended to be consultation.”
Shoppers, traders, businesses and just about anyone can share their thoughts with Mendip District Council, by completing the survey online. A link to the survey is available on Mendip District Council’s website www. mendip.gov.uk and Frome Town Council’s website www.frome-tc.gov.uk
Paper copies of the survey are also available at the Council Access Point (CAP) in Frome.
Cllr Adam Boyden, Mendip District Councillor for Frome College ward and shadow portfolio holder for governance, assets and public spaces said, “I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved with the first phase of consultation on the future of Frome market, it is your market that the council provides and we need to know how you see it work, what you like and dislike and what can be improved.
“I believe our councils should make decisions which are responsive to the community and by taking part in the consultation you can ensure that happens.”
