Frome Festival box office took a record £10,000 on the first day of business in its 10th anniversary year.
A large crowd turned up on Sunday 9th May to order tickets for this year’s festival, which runs from Friday 9th of July until Sunday 18th July
Comedian Reginald D. Hunter and Frome’s tunnels underground tours sold out within hours.
Festival director Martin Dimery said, “We’re delighted that so many people turned up on the first day of festival bookings.
“I apologise for those people who missed out on the events that sold out on the day. The remarkable thing is we did a roaring trade even though the brochure hadn’t come out yet. In previous festivals, Paul Merton & Impro Chums sold out first. This year, Reginald D. Hunter beat them to it.”
Martin praised Paul Merton’s offer to appear at the festival on two consecutive nights. He said, “It will enable more than 1,000 people to see one of Britain’s best-loved comics.”
The festival brochure hit the streets a few days after the box office opened. Festival chairman Bob Morris marshalled a team of volunteers to distribute copies to participating shops, galleries and libraries within a 20-mile radius of Frome.
The brochure can be downloaded from the home page of the festival website at www. fromefestival.co.uk. Website visitors will also find a day-by-day What’s On guide covering all 10 days of the festival.
