Local man, Jack Harrington, successfully completed the Rome Marathon last month, raising £1,100 for the national charity CALM, Campaign Against Living Miserably.
Jack said, “The Rome experience was unforgettable. It felt like going into the unknown with regards to the culture and the anticipation of the event. The registration was en masse, with thousands of people registering up on Saturday.
“With the magnitude of people taking part in the event it wasn’t ‘till the 12k mark that I felt I had some space between other runners, to really get into my stride.
“I felt really good for the first 30 kilometres and was looking at a sub 3 and a half-hour time. Unfortunately ‘the wall’ unduly hit me and the last 12K was sheer pain. My time was 4 hours 24 minutes. I was aiming for a sub 4 hour time, but had to remind myself of the reason I was really doing it for.
“Many people were very encouraging of the charity during the course of the marathon. I was surprised how many British people were running in Rome. I met people from all over the world that asked me about the charity, so it was great to get the profile out.
“My next run is the Hard Way Half in Portland, Dorset, on 14th May and just to step it up a little I’ve entered the South Wales 50 on June 4th organised by ‘Run, Walk, Crawl.’ I will continue to support the Campaign Against Living Miserably charity and I’m always looking for ideas to run events and fundraising ideas.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the people of Frome for their donations and support.”
