Japanese prints at The Frome Festival

Toshidama Gallery and De Hepe Interiors are showing a selection of original Japanese woodblock prints for the period of the Frome festival. 

All of the prints on show are from the nineteenth century and include original art by famous artists such as Utagawa Kuniyoshi – the subject of a major exhibition at the Royal Academy a couple of years ago alongside prints by Utagawa Kunisada and Ando Hiroshige, the three greatest names of Japanese art in the nineteenth century.

Justin Warman, manager of De Hepe Interiors said, “Japanese woodblock prints defy description; with their mysterious subject matter, (explained with extensive catalogue notes written specially for this exhibition), their brilliant colours and jewel-like silvers, golds and applied mica. “

The exhibition covers many genres including warrior prints, landscapes and kabuki subjects. All of the work in the exhibition is for sale, and prints start at £150.
