BATCOMBE Film Society will be showing ‘Kumbh Mela’ (2013), directed by Duncan Bridgeman, at its next event in April.
An Indian meal will be served at 6.30pm, before the 46-minute documentary is shown.
The film follows actor Dominic West accompanying his boyhood friend and Sanskrit scholar, Sir James Mallinson, on Kumbh Mela, the mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith held once every three years when Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river.
Their two-week journey takes them to where the Ganges and Yamuna rivers meet near Allahabad and the biggest of these festivals takes place.
It sees the actor take part in a unique event and his old friend’s ordination as a Mahant, a commander of his sect – the first time a Westerner has received such an honour in this ancient order of master yogis.
The showing will be at the Jubilee Hall in Batcombe – doors open at 6pm. Tickets must be booked as soon as possible in advance and cost £5 for members, £10 for non-members. For more information or to book, contact Nick Sommer on 01749 830060 or lindum46@googlemail.com
