The Merlin Theatre is thrilled to be offering live theatre screenings from both the Royal Opera House London and the Bolshoi in Moscow, starting this October.
This exciting new season opens on Monday 26th September at 7.15pm with a Royal Opera House new production of ‘Norma’, Bellini’s operatic masterpiece on love and honour, directed by Àlex Ollé, and continues on Sunday 23rd October with the Bolshoi’s production of Shostakovich’s ballet, ‘The Golden Age’, depicting European life in the roaring ‘20s, followed by a Royal Opera House screened performance of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte on Monday 24th.
The following month sees a Bolshoi production of Shostakovich’s ballet ‘The Bright Stream’ on Sunday 6th November and a Royal Opera House production of ‘Les Contes D’Hoffman’ (Offenbach’s ‘Tales of Hoffman) on Thursday 15th.
The Christmas and New Year period sees two perfect seasonal treats from the Bolshoi, with Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker’ on 18th December and his ‘Sleeping Beauty’ on 22nd January. Both are Sunday afternoon screenings, so ideal family outings. The Bolshoi’s sumptuous staging with its luxurious sets and costumes will really give life to these much-loved fairy tales.
Further productions of both ballet and opera follow in the spring, including many well-known classics. Tickets for all these shows are £16 adults, £10.50 concessions. Contact the Merlin on 01373 465949 or visit www.merlintheatre.co.uk for further information and to book.
