LOCAL actor Pip Utton has been enjoying success, picking up an international award for his recent performances.
Pip Utton was awarded The Valery Kashanov Award which is given every two years at the Fujairah International Arts Festival in memory of the late Russian diplomat and world authority on monodrama, one-person plays.
The award recognises not only acting excellence but significant influence and contribution made in the world of monodrama.
After finishing a performance of his play ‘Playing Maggie’ in Fujairah UAE, the Secretary General of the International Theatre Institute joined him on stage with other dignitaries to present the award.
Pip said, “I was taken completely by surprise. I knew Valery Kashanova and held him in the highest regard and so I feel not only flattered, but honoured to be the second recipient of this award given in his memory. To have my work recognised like this internationally is beyond a dream. I also feel as chuffed as is possible to be.”
Pip has just returned from a successful tour of the Netherlands with his latest play ‘Popes’, described as a ‘masterpiece’ by applaus.nl
Local audiences can see Pip performing ‘Playing Maggie’ nearer to home on May 12th when he will at Horningsham Village Hall.
