A local family charity is supporting 100 residents to go to the theatre this Christmas thanks to a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Frome.
Purple Elephant Family Support, which provides a range of vital services for families with children of all ages, has been able to offer free theatre tickets to 100 residents following a £1,150 donation from the Rotary Club of Frome, for the fifth year running.
Both children and adults are invited to watch either the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at the Frome Memorial Theatre or the musical theatre show Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Merlin Theatre.
Purple Elephant’s service manager, Sue Willis, said, “Some of the work we do is very serious, as we aim to support families in complex, challenging and sometimes distressing circumstances. However, our overall aims are always to support social inclusion and integration and, importantly, to bring joy into families’ lives. Ensuring that an opportunity such as going as a family to see live theatre is available allows us to offer something that isn’t just about the practical, even grinding reality of the day-to-day for so many.
“For four years now, we have heard so much laughter and had such amazing feedback from theatre-trip families that offering the show tickets again this year was high up on our wish list. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Frome, that bit of magic is happening again.”

President of the Rotary Club of Frome, Richard Lines, said, “Rotary believes in the power of community and the joy that comes from bringing people together. Supporting local families is a wonderful way to celebrate our centenary and continue our tradition of service. We’re proud to help bring some festive joy to local families this Christmas.”
