One of Frome’s most prestigious and celebrated writers will be giving a talk at the town library on Wednesday 6th July.
Gerard Woodward, who has been shortlisted for the Man-Booker Prize, the Whitbread First Novel Award and twice for the T.S.Eliot Prize, will be speaking from 6.30pm as part of the Frome Festival.
He will be talking about his latest book of short stories ‘Legoland’ as well as his novels and poetry.
Poetry gave him his initial literary success; his first collection won the Somerset Maugham Award, a travel bursary, which he used to spend time in Malaysia and Vietnam. After this he turned to fiction and has published five novels as well as collections of short stories.
Frome writers may especially benefit from the Q&A session as he is also research professor and senior lecturer for creative writing and at Bath Spa University.
Gerard says of Legoland, “I like to unsettle … and this is part of the attraction of humour. I especially like the type of humour where you suddenly wonder if you should be laughing at all.”
The talk promises to delight and surprise, much as his writing does.
Gerard Woodward – ‘Legoland’ is at Frome Library on Wednesday 6th July at 6.30pm. Tickets available from the Cheese and Grain Box office – 01373 455420.
