Frome Town Hall hosted a very special party to raise funds for local charity Active and In Touch earlier this week.
The Mayor of Frome, Toby Eliot, wanted to finish his year as mayor with a celebration of all things Frome and raise funds for the charity that reaches out to those who are lonely and isolated.
Toby said, “I wanted to host a party open to everyone in Frome to celebrate my fantastic year as Mayor and help out a great local organisation who have just become a registered charity.”
Toby was delighted to announce that the evening raised in excess of £1,200 for the charity.
Guests were treated to a finger buffet donated by local pubs and restaurants. Toby added, “We were amazed at the positive response from establishments such as Dragon Pearl, Castello’s, Jhalmuri, The Cornerhouse, Café La Strada, From Peru to You, Sagebury Cheese, Sam’s Kitchen and The Cheese and Grain. All these great local business wanted to support us in helping raise funds for Active and In Touch.”
The evening started with a comedy set from Town Councillor and host of Frome’s Submarine Comedy Club, Tim O’Conner during which the Town Council, Mayor Toby Eliot and various other local figures and organisations were subject to some gentle ribbing.
Further entertainment was provided by Deputy Mayor Al O’Kane who played a stunning acoustic set with his band and The Back Wood Redeemers, featuring the Mayor himself on mandolin and harmonica who got the crowd of about 120 revellers up on their feet. The evening’s entertainment was rounded off with a DJ set from Shelasoul.
The Palmer Street Bottle donated the ‘Champagne’ which was awarded to Des Harris who was adjudged to have worn the best hat.
Raffle tickets were on sale throughout the evening and guests were amazed by the generosity of local business providing fantastic prizes. Donations for the raffle came from: the Westway Cinema, Boho, Kerry Chapman Interiors, Bramble and Wild, Lilley’s Cider, Settlers Stores, Rose and Lyons and Marie-Louise Millinery. The top prize was a voucher for a signature piece of jewellery from master jeweller Tom McEwen.
The entire evening was created in order to raise funds for Active and In Touch a Frome based charity offering companionship and support for people suffering from social isolation or loneliness, trapped in their own homes and in need of a friend.
