Selwood Academy takes over the Merlin stage this weekend with their production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ the deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical which has devoured the hearts of theatre-goers for over 30 years.
Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world.
The meek floral assistant, Seymour Krelborn, stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” after his co-worker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn, as long as he keeps feeding it – blood! Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out-of-this-world origins and intent towards global domination!
Performances are from Wednesday 21st to Saturday 24th June, at 7.30pm and tickets are £10.50 adults, £7.50 students. Suitable for age 8 plus.
Two world class live broadcasts follow next week with a showing of the National Theatre’s production of ‘Salome’ on Monday 26th of June (7.00pm) and a live screening of Verdi’s opera Otello from the Royal Opera House on Wednesday 28th (7.15pm). Tickets for both productions are £16, concession £10.50.
