MILLERS in Frome has donated £129.98 to Dorothy House. The money was raised after the government introduced a 5p charge for single use carrier bags.
The 5p charge for plastic bags came into effect in October last year and local homestore Millers has since been collecting the money to donate to local charities.
Store manager, Hannah Palmer said, “As a company, we decided that charging for plastic bags was the right thing to do but we wanted to ensure that any money we collected was donated to a local charity.
“From October to April, we raised £129.98 which on this occasion will go to Dorothy House. We will support a different local charity each year, so this is an ongoing project for us.
“Since the introduction of the charge, the amount of plastic bags that we’ve used has dropped by around 80% which is brilliant. Thank you to everyone for their support.”
