A YOUNG boy from Frome has completed a very muddy 1K obstacle course and raised £340 for We Hear You (WHY) in memory of his great granny.
Seven-year-old Arthur Kenney decided to do the mud run in aid of WHY after his great grandmother, Barbara Bellworthy, died in February.
Arthur’s mum Jasmine who took part in the race with him said, “Arthur did great in his monster race and really enjoyed himself. It was a cold and wet day to begin with, which made for lots of mud. Arthur is feeling really happy that he managed to do the race and when he finished it, he said, ‘It was really awesome!’
“He jumped, crawled, climbed, balanced and ran around the course doing a total of six laps even though only two were required to get his medal, which he has taken into school to show his friends.
“Arthur and his great- granny were very close and had a very special relationship so when she passed away at the age of 94, it really affected him.
“Not long after she died, we were travelling in the car and out of nowhere Arthur said, ‘Mum, I want to give all my pocket money to help poorly children.’
“I had to fight back the tears because it was such sweet thing to say, and I know he’s been saving all his pocket money up for a while now so he can go to Harry Potter World.
“I told him that if he wanted to give his money to poorly children then mummy and daddy would buy his Harry Potter World ticket for him. But he said it wouldn’t feel like he was giving his money, so wanted to do something else. I racked my brain and came up with the Mini Monster Race idea. We talked about how We Hear You helps other children who have lost their loved ones from cancer, so he was very happy to raise the money for them.
“We started with a target of £50 but reached that straight away, so put it to £100 – and hit that soon after, so then aimed for £150. Currently the total is £340. I’m overwhelmed by the support for my lovely boy. It means a lot to all of us. Arthur would like to say thank you to everyone who supported him. He plans on doing more charity events in the future.
“We are very proud that even when he’s grieving himself, he thought of others who might be sad.”
