FROME Quakers have a new permanent home for their Sunday meetings.
“Frome Society of Friends – better known as Quakers – has experienced accommodation problems since the first lockdown, now (unbelievably) almost 2 years ago,” reports Hilary Lang on behalf of Frome Quakers.
“The Key Centre at The Mount, owned by Somerset Council, which had been their home for more than 10 years, closed its doors along with all other local venues, and hasn’t fully reopened since.
“It is currently undergoing improvements to its insulation, which may take some time. Also, unfortunately many local groups were being priced out of it over the latter few years of its use as a venue, after a steep rise in the cost of hire.
“After an experimental two months at the Cheese and Grain, coupled with some use of the village hall in Great Elm, Frome Quakers has finally found what is hoped to be a long-term home at Christchurch Hall in Park Road, where meetings are every Sunday, from 10.30am to 11.30am.
“In the near future, as hopefully Omicron infections continue to reduce and there is more confidence in returning to mixing with others, meetings will once again be followed by teas, coffees and a chance to chat on matters great and small.
“All members, as well of course as anyone interested in finding out more about Quakers, their way of worship and their work in many areas of life, are welcome.”
