THE new President of Frome Selwood Rotary, Hugh Deed, officially took over the role from Chris Stilton at the Rotary club’s early July meeting.
Hugh transferred into the club when he moved to the area six years ago. At his handover ceremony, he was surprised when six members of his old club (Rushmoor, in NE Hampshire) turned up to join in the handover.
Hugh said, “I was president of the Rushmoor Club some years ago and it was a great surprise and delight when these members travelled down to join us for the evening. It is typical of Rotary friendships that this sort of thing happens.”
As well as the many Rotary activities he is involved in, Hugh is also a trustee of the Frome Festival, hon treasurer of the Corsley Show, chair of his local village hall management committee and a speaker and volunteer trainer for ShelterBox an international disaster relief charity founded by a Rotary club in UK.
“ I am very pleased that the three Rotary clubs in Frome are working together this year to arrange the fireworks display in Frome on 3rd November. Arrangements for this are coming along very well and we are looking forward to it,” said Hugh.
The club has already agreed who the next two presidents after Hugh will be, they are both ladies and have both been previous presidents of the club.
The handover meeting was also the last time this club will meet on a regular basis at the Fox, Tytherington, which has been their base for several years.
The photograph of Hugh with Gloria Buchan and Jenny Bennett was taken outside the pub in recognition of the club leaving this venue.
