THE ladies section at Orchardleigh Golf Club are coming to the end of their summer competitions.
The Sally Lock trophy, which is played over two rounds of individual stableford, was won by Dawn Russell with 72 points, scoring 36 in each round. Audrey Holland, who had a great first round with 41 points, has a more disappointing second round of 30 points and came a close second with a score of 71. In third position was Liz South with a 30+34, beating Sonia Probert on count back who has 34+30.
The Val Stringer Cup is played in teams of three, drawn from a mixed level of handicaps with two scores to count.
The winning team were Sarah Doble, Carol Weightman and Sue Dicken with 72 points and runners-up Lorraine Collings, Di Norris and Marie Cusworth with 70 points.
The Jefferies Trophy is a mixed pairs competition and was won this year by Sonia Probert and Rod Jelly with 44 points; second Liz and Terry South 43 points and; third was Pat Jones and Pete Maunder with 41 points (ocb).
Congratulations go to Sonia Probert who has reduced her handicap from 23 to 18 in a space of a few weeks. Having won the bronze gross and the best bronze nett overall in the recent Ladies Club Championships coming down two shots, she went on to win a recent medal qualifying competition with a nett 66, reducing her by a further 3 shots!
