A Frome-based counselling charity committed to raising awareness of the distress caused by mental health issues is running regular drop-in sessions for anyone interested in finding out more about their training courses.
Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy (WCP) will hold the next drop-in session on Thursday 14th November, following World Mental Health Day in October, themed around workplace mental health.
“Established over 40 years ago, we run a busy, affordable counselling service, as well as offering a comprehensive training programme,” said training coordinator Jane Bennett, who runs the drop-in sessions.
“Since we were first established, understanding of mental health has transformed. People are more able to speak about their difficulties and to consider seeking help. The problem we face now is that the need for services is greater than the available resources. Agencies such as WCP play a central role in making counselling services more widely accessible.”
As awareness of mental health has grown, so has the interest in training to become a counsellor or psychotherapist. “We offer a respected, psychodynamic programme, which is accredited by both the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP),” says Jane. “Our staff members are passionate about their role in training new practitioners. Our courses combine a strong, classical focus with contemporary thinking. The experience and enthusiasm for this work brought by our trainers resonates deeply with our trainees, creating a vibrant and fulfilling training experience.”
