ATTENDEES at the Pod Workshop say they are very proud to have their work on sale in the Share shop in the Market Place in Frome.
The Pod is a local charity that supports young people and adults with additional needs, young carers and their families. The items on sale in the Share shop are handmade from recycled materials where possible and make lovely gifts.
Pod Workshop has been running on Saturdays at Edventure over the past 18 months and organisers have plans to extend to a weekday session at Colliers Court in the autumn.
One of the organisers said, “Pod Workshop came about when adults with additional needs who attended Pod Plus social group asked for something creative to do at weekends when it can be a bit dull. The Pod charity responded and co-designed the project with members. Each session is bespoke and meets the individual needs and skills of the people attending.
“The group has learned lots of new crafting skills, as well as building independence and self-confidence. The workshop is set up as a workplace environment and a way to practice being in the working world. There are limited opportunities for this locally for adults with disabilities, and this is something Pod is trying to address for the wider community.
“Share is supporting other local charities and groups by giving them the opportunity to sell items and raise funds, but more importantly, raise awareness of their organisation.”
