The fifth annual Frome Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and 1k Fun Run had its most successful event to date on Sunday 16th July with over 1,150 people signed up to run and a record number of finishers at all three distances.
An extraordinary new course record was set by British athlete Andrew Davies who completed the half marathon course in 1 hour, 8 minutes and 30 seconds. Of his brilliant performance, Andrew said, “Thanks for having me! It was a fantastically organised race with some good hills.” Andrew is representing Great Britain in this year’s IAAF World Athletics Championships in London.
Runners from across Somerset and the South West were out in force, with ages ranging from 16 to 79. Local charities featured heavily in fundraising efforts, with fancy dress efforts including many dressed as spiderman and some testicular cancer charity creative costumes!
More than 100 volunteers made up of local residents, runners and Rotary Club members marshalled the route and created a brilliant atmosphere that the event is known for.
Race director, Richard Parr said, “Frome really is a brilliant place to run. The entire community gets behind the event, from volunteering, to building impromptu support stations on front lawns, leading training groups for new runners and raising money for such important causes.
“It’s certainly cemented its position as the best little half marathon in the UK. We’re already excited for next year!”
