THE crossing in Frome’s Market Place is undergoing works as part of a county-wide programme.
A statement from Somerset County Council said, “This is part of our ongoing £11.6million refurbishment of signals across Somerset, replacing equipment that has reached the end of its working life.
“The new equipment will be eco-friendly and more efficient, and carrying out this replacement now is essential, before the existing unit fails, causing significant disruption.
“Our team started in January under temporary traffic management and we expect to complete the work by the spring.”
On the Somerset County Council Travel Somerset website it says, “The new signals should improve traffic flow and will provide much safer access for both cyclists and pedestrians.”
Councillor Anita Collier said, “We’re pleased the Market Place is part of Somerset’s ongoing vital refurbishment programme. By replacing the current lights, that have reached the end of their working life, it means Frome town centre gets a safer crossing for pedestrians and road users alike, which benefits both residents and visitors.”
