SCHOOLS in Frome celebrated World Book Day earlier this month with pupils dressing up as their favourite book characters to mark the national event.
Oakfield Academy enjoyed their biggest and most successful World Book Day. Prizes were given to pupils and staff wearing the most imaginative outfits.
Staff from Ellenbray toy shop in Frome visited the school to judge the competition and present the winner – nine year old Jamie O’Connor – with his prize which was donated by the shop.
Other competitions took place included an extreme reading and short story writing competition.
Selwood Academy pupils took part in a 10-word story challenge. Frome College Radio Club sent out the challenge and Selwood pupils got their thinking caps on, and came up with some excellent stories!
Some of the story entries were:
‘There was a dog called Jeff, he liked to jump.’ Lewis N YR6
‘A young girl was heartbroken when her loving father died.’ Hattie S YR6
‘My cat screamed ferociously as he tumbled through the window.’ Melissa C YR6
‘Hundreds of stars glitter like lanterns strung across the sky.’ Anna S YR7
Bright Stars Nursery also dressed up and had a fun day celebrating their favourite books.
