Selwood Academy unveiled their new third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch (AGP) on 30th April. The pitch is the first of its kind in Frome.
This project has been made possible by a £498,621 grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation.
With just one other AGP in Frome, which is a sand-based pitch at Frome Leisure Centre, Somerset FA identified the site as a priority area in the county to improve provision of football facilities. In addition to this, there are three large football clubs in the town and the lack of suitable facilities for winter training and match play has halted any growth or development of these clubs.
Since 2000, the Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 247 grants worth £9.7million towards grassroots sports projects worth over £21.1million across the whole of Somerset County FA.
