Shakespeare scholar Clare Asquith, Professor Gerard Kilroy and Cyril Kinsky QC pictured left to right above are leading a lively and informal discussion on The Tempest – Shakespeare, Prospero and the Island followed by home cooked supper at Mells Barn at 6.30 pm on Saturday 7 September.
Professor Gerard Kilroy is the author of a number of acclaimed works on 16th Century figures including Edmund Campion, and currently teaches courses on Shakespeare and the humanities at the Ignatianum University, Krakow.
Before becoming a barrister, Cyril Kinsky spent 10 years as a director, including As You Like It and Julius Caesar, and then became literary manager at Hampstead Theatre Club. He spends his retirement in Chapmanslade making marquetry furniture.
Clare Asquith lives in Mells, lectures on Shakespeare and is also to share the stage with Mark Rylance at the Globe Theatre in November discussing Shakespeare and the Essex Rising, the subject of her latest book, ‘Shakespeare and the Resistance.’
A glass of wine and nibbles (included in the £15 price) will be served on arrival and after supper the discussion will continue, hopefully with contributions from the floor.
The following day (Sunday 8th September), The Tempest will be performed at 3.00 pm at the Elizabethan Playhouse at Corsley by award-winning theatre company Illyria.
Tickets include food and drink at both events: £15 for the Mells evening, £30 for the Corsley play or £40 for the double bill from Claire da Costa, 01373 832113, claire@theelizabethanplayhouse.com.
Proceeds to community-run Mells Village Shop, and The Shakespearean Authorship Trust.
