FROME youth centre will be hosting a ‘sleep rough’ event next month to raise money for the local YMCA.
People are invited to join the fundraiser as part of the YMCA’s national Sleep Easy Week from 3rd to 10th March.
The Sleep Easy event would involve people raising sponsorship and spending the night outside in a bid to raise money and awareness of homeless young people across the country.
Mendip YMCA’s Karen Collins said, “We are celebrating our 125th anniversary in 2017 and, to help mark this event, we are calling on Mendip residents to come together for one night in support of the national Sleep Easy Week.
“Donors all over England will sleep out for one night to help raise awareness of the hundreds of young people who sleep rough every year.
“Sleep Easy is a fun and safe event and, although it’s not a genuine experience of sleeping rough, by taking part you will be helping to raise funds for local young people in need.”
Mendip’s event will take place at Frome Youth & Community Centre from 8pm until 6am on Friday 3rd March. Registration costs £10 and participants are being asked to raise at least £100 in sponsorship in order to take part.
YMCA Mendip is an independent charity and relies on the local community for support. All funds raised during this event will be used towards its local services.
