A group of supporters of Frome cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY) recently completed a three-day trek around the Cornish coast and have already raised more than £17,866.41 for the charity. The tough 46-kilometre trek started near St Ives and finished at Godrevy Point, taking in stunning scenery and wildlife along the way.
WHY volunteer coordinator Lottie Ardeshir was on the trek and said, “It was a fantastic experience, but definitely not an easy one! There were times when it felt really difficult, but to find out halfway through that we’d hit £17,000 for WHY was such a boost and kept us all going to the end (with the odd Cornish pasty for energy).
“Thanks so much to everyone who has sponsored us so far; WHY is such an important local charity. It costs WHY £6,000 a week to support 115 children and adults affected or bereaved by cancer, so this money amounts to almost three weeks’ running costs, which is amazing!”
Fundraising and communications manager Gemma Wilkes, said, “Lots of the South West Coast Path trek team took on the Three Peaks Challenge in 2021, tackling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon back-to-back, so we knew they were tough and we knew they were great at fundraising, but we’re still extremely impressed! This total is the result of months of hard work by the team raising money through jumble sales and events, as well as donations via fundraising pages. We’re so grateful for their hard work and commitment, huge well done to them all!
“Charities like ours rely on brilliant supporters like these and we’re delighted they chose us, and by extension people facing the devastating impact of a life-threatening diagnosis, to benefit. If you’re considering a challenge in 2024, head to our website at wehearyou.org.uk/events to see what we have on offer, or let us know about something you’d like to do and we can work together to make it happen.”
