One of the world’s leading space research scientists, Dr Eric Barrett, is returning to Frome to give another of his captivating illustrated talks.
The talk ‘Missions to Planet Earth: facts, fiction and faith’ will be hosted by the Wesley Blokes Club on Thursday 16th February from 7.30pm.
Dr Barrett will ask what intelligent beings have shown an interest in Planet Earth?
He will review present knowledge and understanding in his field of study, concluding with a fresh interpretation of a short and seminal passage in the heart of the Old Testament Scriptures.
On his last visit to Frome, in 2013, Dr Barrett asked ‘Are we alone in the universe?’ On that occasion, he also addressed another key issue ‘Do scientists believe in God?’ He believed many scientists around the world had concluded ‘there is a God’ and had summarised the argument in his book, titled ‘A Worm’s Eye View of Space’.
Dr Barrett is the former founding director of the University of Bristol’s Research Centre for Satellite Remote Sensing of the Earth, and advisor and consultant on related matters to a wide range of national and international agencies and authorities including the United Nations, the World Bank, the UK and other governments, NASA, the European Space Agency, and has written more than 250 authoritative scientific papers for these organisations around the world.
He has long combined these activities as an active Christian preacher and is now, along with his wife Rosemary, director of ‘4H’ / Magyar Misszio, a Christian mission and a registered UK Charity working in the Middle Danube Basin of Central and Eastern Europe.
The ‘Missions to Planet Earth’ talk is open to anyone interested in modern day space sciences.
Entry will be £5 per head, with all proceeds of the evening going to the 4H/Magyar Misszio Christian Mission.
