STAFF from two local opticians have donated £500 to help ensure vital oxygen supplies are available to those who need it in India.
Specsavers’ sister stores in Frome and Warminster have joined Specsavers teams across the UK who have rallied together in response to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, showing support for the Oxygen for India appeal.
In total, £150,000 has been raised thanks to the generosity of individual stores from across the country. This has been boosted by a donation of £60,000 from Specsavers themselves, taking the final total to £210,000.
Richard Goring, store director at Specsavers Frome and Warminster, said, “Now that measures are fortunately easing in the UK, it’s vital we help other countries who aren’t in the same position as us. We just knew that we had to show our support after seeing the awful Covid-19 outbreak in India, and thankfully we’re in a position to do so.”
Paul Marshall, Specsavers Managing Director, said, “This money will be provided to two charities both actively involved in supporting this appeal – the British Asian Trust’s Oxygen for India emergency appeal and The Hope Foundation charity which our Irish Partners have close links with and will support.
“These incredible sums raised will be put to work supporting the appeal and helping India in its hour of need.
“I am enormously proud of how quickly and passionately our store partners have responded. It is a testament to the care and compassion that Specsavers and is globally recognised for.”
