Local charity The Pod, set up by a parent in 2011 to enable young disabled people to access a youth club, continues to grow in its support.
This year the charity will see its best support ever in the Frome marathon with 20 runners raising funds to keep The Pod and its sister group The Zone, open for young people.
11 of the runners are either young carers or the disabled young people themselves whilst others are parents, trustees and friends of Pod. In 2015 the Pod Squad had five runners and in 2016 13 runners, it is a testament to the founding parent Sue Paxton that support has grown for these important services.
The Pod is a local charity that runs a youth club for young disabled people from 10-18 years of age run by qualified youth workers and an amazing team of volunteers without whom expansion of the group would not be possible. It currently allows 20 young people with additional needs to meet in a safe and supportive environment to chat, play games and be creative. They have fun trips out together such as trampolining, restaurants visits and picnics to name a few. ‘The Zone’ which supports siblings of disabled children and young carers has grown in strength and is a wonderful space for young people to meet and put their family concerns aside for a couple of hours.
If you would like to donate to help keep these vital services open you can do so by going to www.totalgiving.co.uk/my page/podsquad2017 Any donation however small is very gratefully received and goes directly to the running of the young peoples’ clubs.
