CHINA’S great Ming dynasty will be the subject of a lively illustrated talk by Somerset author Justin Newland at Frome Library on Saturday 9th February, from 11-12.30pm.
‘The Great Ming Code: How the Law Book of the Ming Dynasty attempted to harmonise human society with the will of Heaven’ will examine how the rule of law reached into every aspect of people’s lives, even the most powerful figure of the time, the Emperor.
Justin will also reveal how this period of history inspired his latest novel, The Old Dragon’s Head, a historical fantasy and supernatural thriller set in the Ming Dynasty and played out in the shadows of the Great Wall of China.
After a long career in I.T., Justin’s love of literature finally seduced him. In 2006, Justin found his way to the creative keyboard to start his debut novel, The Genes of Isis, a tale of love, destruction and ethereal power set under Ancient Egyptian skies.
He is currently working on a novel set in East Prussia during the Enlightenment in the 18th Century which speculates on an alternative genesis to the Industrial Revolution.
Justin writes historical fiction with a supernatural twist. His novels explore the spirit of our times, the underlying narrative to every culture and nation.
