THE third Frome Comic Con has been hailed by organisers as the best one yet, with over 2,000 people flocking to Frome to enjoy what is fast becoming one of the most popular independent comic cons in the country.
The event, organised by local company Norté Promotions, entertained crowds of superhero and fantasy fans, some dressed as their favourite heroes and villains, with a whole host of traders, exhibitors and some very special guests.
Russ Ellingham from Norté Promotions said, “It went really well. We had a lot more visitors from out of town this year – some as far as Manchester. The traders commented that Frome is fast becoming one of the most popular independent comic cons in the country.
“There were plenty of exhibitors, many people in cos-play – they really went all out with their costumes – it was amazing to see! International performer, Maria Aviles, came as Deadpool and put on a great show for the crowds. We had escape rooms, which proved extremely popular, so we will definitely be seeing more of them next year. Frome FM held it all together for us on stage, running competitions and keeping the crowds entertained – they did a great job.
“Everyone enjoyed the special guest – David Warner, of Tron and Titanic fame, and Samantha Womack, from EastEnders and the Kingsman: The Secret Service, were particular favourites with the crowds. Both David and Sam said that they loved Frome – which was good feedback to hear for the town.
“The day was busy throughout, I would guess that there were at least 2,000 visitors to the Cheese & Grain, and that’s not counting the people who visited the other venues like the library and Black Swan Arts. It was a fantastic day – far better than the previous two years!”
