A MAJOR milestone has been reached with the building of the new health centre at Enos Way, adjacent to Frome’s Community Hospital.
The ‘topping out’ ceremony has now taken place at an event attended by both construction workers and the medical staff who will soon be working in the building.
The building contractor at the Fromefield site is Interserve and their senior quantity surveyor is Andy Davies. He explained the significance of the ‘topping out’ ceremony, and said, “The ‘topping out’ of any project is a major milestone in its construction as it marks the completion of the external envelope of the building.
“Having endured the unseasonably wet weather of the spring and summer, we are delighted to have reached this turning point on programme for completion in December. As our attention now turns to the interior of the medical centre, we will continue to work closely with all the partners and staff at the Frome Medical Practice to ensure the high standard of healthcare the new building will offer the town is delivered.”
Once open, the new £10.5million health centre will provide an opticians, pharmacy, cafe and a state-of-the-art operating theatre able to handle day-care patients.
The senior partner at the Frome Medical Practice is Dr Tina Merry. She said, “We are extremely pleased to see the enormous progress that has been made with the building, particularly as the contractors Interserve have had to cope with one of the wettest summers in memory. Now that the interior has begun to be fitted out it is possible to actually see what a great asset the building will be for the people of Frome and the surrounding area.
“We are still on course for opening in January. Once finished, the town really will have a health facility second to none.”
