FROME Town Centre has now become a 20-mph zone with road flooring signs already in place.
After a consultation by Somerset County Council, that was met with a favourable response from Frome Town Council and residents, the town centre streets have now become a 20-mph zone. The zone will include all town centre streets and extend from a little way up from the junction of North Parade and Welshmill Road, through the town centre, up to Rook Lane on Bath Street.
New signage at various ‘gateway’ points are yet to be installed but 20-mph roundels on the road surface on a buff coloured high friction surface have been installed.
Clr Peter Wheelhouse at Frome Town Council said, “People will have seen the posts and roundels installed in the town centre to confirm that a 20-mph zone is being introduced there. This project is being led by Somerset County Council but is supported by Frome Town Council as part of a package of measures to make Frome town centre more pedestrian friendly.”
Cllr Tricia Golinski said, “The 20 mph zone in Frome town centre is the second phase of the town centre ‘re-modelling’, aimed at making the area more pedestrian and cyclist friendly, in order to encourage more journeys on foot and by bike and fewer car journeys.
“Reducing vehicle speeds plays a big part in making people feel safer on the pavements and crossing the road.”
