A TWELVE-hour music and words event is being held next week to raise money to help ‘turn the tables’ on climate change in Sudan.
From 9am to 9pm on Saturday 7th March, local musical artists and poets will perform at Christ Church, Christchurch Street West, helping to raise awareness about the effects of climate change in North Darfur, one of the most drought-prone areas of Sudan.
Money raised will go to the charity Practical Action. Their appeal ‘Turning the tables on climate change’, is raising funds to support the area in a number of ways, including the planting of thousands of trees to re-green land lost to the advancing desert and improve environmental resilience.
Event organiser and director of music at Christ Church, Ann Burgess said “Everyone is welcome! Drop in, listen, and donate. Money raised will be match-funded by the UK government.
“So far I have a few of my piano pupils performing, my Scallop Shells junior choir, Beethoven piano sonatas, Jackdaws songbirds; members of Frome College debating team speaking on climate change, poems on trees, Christ Church Singers, and much, much more!”
More performers are welcome to take part in the event. Ann said, “A suggestion of ‘Trees’ for a theme, is there if you want one. But don’t feel limited by a theme – be yourself for the planet!”
