Frome-based counselling charity We Hear You (WHY) has appointed Tamsin Westbrook as a volunteer coordinator for the Frome area.
Fundraising officer Helen White says, “We’ve got a fantastic group of volunteers at WHY, but we’re always on the lookout for more.
“The charity has grown by 60% in the last couple of years, along with our fundraising targets, so we decided that we needed someone to work with our existing volunteers, recruit new ones and make sure people get the most out of volunteering for us.
“We’re delighted that Tamsin is joining the team – she runs Tea ‘n’ Cake, a successful local business and has a truly impressive record as a fundraiser in her own right.”
Tamsin said, “WHY relies entirely on voluntary donations, fundraising tirelessly to maintain and grow its counselling service. To keep our running costs down and maximise our fundraising potential, WHY needs its volunteers.
“As the charity has grown, so has our need for people who can help us. Can you help? We’re looking for people who can offer specific skills and ideas, as well as anyone willing to shake a bucket, attend events or pack bags. Giving your time and expertise to charity gives an invaluable sense of fulfilment. It’s a great way to discover and develop new skills, gain new experiences and work with a diverse range of people. Local charity We Hear You (WHY) is a free professional one-to-one counselling service for anyone affected by a life-threatening illness, including family members and friends. The service is in great demand and WHY offer adult counselling in the area and children’s counselling in many local schools, as well as at their new offices in Frome Town Hall.
WHY has grown twofold over the last three years meaning that the charity offers around 90 counselling sessions each week. Each session costs £44 and offers a lifeline to people in the area. WHY relies entirely on voluntary donations and receives no central government funding.
