Former Mayor of Frome (2000/01), Philip Whitmarsh, assisted a group of former pupils in arranging a school reunion during his year of office.
It proved to be a great success, with over 200 attending.
Since then, Philip has continued to arrange “mini re-unions” with some of his school friends and has maintained contact with David Robertson, Molly Butler (nee Fuller), David Wragg, Derek Taylor, Philip Corp, John Hyde, Alan Bennett, Kenneth Stradling, Eric Stradling, Ann Stradling (nee Scott), Richard Robinson, Brian Cox, Kenneth Bull, Margaret Stevens (nee Down), Colin Cornish, Radley Wheeler, Ann Blake (nee Rayner), and Sheila Aslett (nee Elmer).
Their most recent event was held at The Woolpack Inn, Beckington on Saturday 1st June with over 20 in attendance. Philip said, “Manager Melanie and her staff cheerfully made it another splendid enjoyable occasion. It was generally agreed as most of us had now entered our 80th year, that we should arrange something a bit special for June 2020.
“If you were born in or around 1940, attended Oakfield School between 1951 and 1957 and often reminisce about your time there, then do join your old pals at one of our regular friendly local gatherings. Please write to Philip Whitmarsh c/o The Frome Times, with details of your present location and preferred method of contact. Our existing group of ex-pupils will be delighted to hear from you, please be assured that your personal details will not be circulated to any third party.”
