Three of Frome’s Missing Links (FML) volunteers, Chris Green, Geoff Pell and Chris Kenyon, took a break from path building to join a 16-strong group cycling the Himalayan foothills to raise funds for the Nishtha project.
This is a rural health, educational and environmental project for underprivileged women and children in a remote area of India’s Himachal Pradesh state (see www. Nishtha.ngo). They rode 500km on steep mountain roads which included 10,400metres of ascent (higher than Ben Nevis perched on top of Everest!) in temperatures as low as minus 5o C over 11 days. One inspirational day was spent at the project seeing the results and the dedication of the staff.
Chris Kenyon, a trustee of the UK charitable trust that supports the project said. ” The tour was a great success and has already raised £12,500 plus gift aid for the project from the group’s donations and sponsorship”.
The sponsorship site is still open at www.every click.com/nishthahpcycling. All donations are welcome. The team will now be back at work on Frome Missing Links on Friday.
