Frome 1st XI won by 37 runs. Frome 1st XI – 147 all out off 45.3 overs. Yeovil 1st XI – 110 all out off 36 overs
Frome started their league campaign steadily with a 37-run victory away at Yeovil.
Yeovil having won the toss put Frome into bat. After a stable started between R Lett (17) and P Sanger (11), Frome lost both opening batsmen in quick succession to put them on 28-2 off 10 overs.
When R Croker went for 2 off the bowling of A Murphy., Frome were in trouble at 30 for 3 off 13 overs. Next to the crease were S Croker (11) and R Gullock (30) who batted for 11 overs and held a partnership of 30 runs. Further wickets fell to leave Frome in disarray at 97-8 from 34 overs. T Barton (20) and M Sanger (12) rallied to create a partnership of 46 helping Frome to finish on 147.
T Barton (4-32) put Yeovil on the back foot after getting 2 early wickets. Wickets began to fall regularly from N Dredge (3-22), R Croker (2-39) and M Watts (1-22). Bowling was supported by superb fielding from Frome, which helped to secure the win, gaining 18 solid points from the first game of the season.
Frome 1st XI host Minehead on 11 May, starting at 12.30pm.
Frome 2nd XI. In contrast Frome 2nd’s were topped in their season opener. Frome 2nd XI lost by 7 wickets. Frome 2nd XI – 105 all out (S Wheeler 2-21, L Potter). Ilminster 2nd XI – 108-3.

Frome 3rd XI. Pearson shines as Threes get off to winning start. Frome 3rd XI – won by 55 runs. Frome 3rd XI – 205-6 (40 overs). Wembdon 3rd XI – 150 all out (36.2 overs). Frome CC 3rd XI started the 2019 league season with a 55 run victory against their 3rd xi counterparts at Wembdon Cricket Club,
Frome 3rd XI return to action on Saturday when they host Temple Cloud 2nd XI at Mells.
Frome Ladies. Frome Ladies have a successful start to the season with two wins from two games. Captained by Kathy Dredge, the team have started the season in style winning by 65 runs against Hinton Charterhouse Ladies, who were playing their debut game and beating Street Ladies by 24 runs with Kathy Dredge and Chloe Gullock putting on 30 runs in their 3 overs.
Youth and All Stars. The Youth teams, partnered by Payman, commence their league games this week with the U11’s hosting Beckington, U13’s away to Temple Cloud and the U15’s away to Winsley.
Youth training is on Friday evenings at Frome Cricket Club at 6.00pm.
All Stars cricket for ages 5 to 8 years commences on Sunday 19 May between 11.00am and noon. Registration is online at www.allstars.co.uk
