Frome Show, on Saturday 10th September, is set to be bigger and better than ever, and with over 350 trade stands, Frome Show is a shopper’s paradise.
“You can find an eclectic mix of independent traders selling handmade goods, from clothing and jewellery to homeware,” said Sarah Parnell, one of the show organisers.
“Frome Show also has two large food halls to offer; the Local Food Hall selling delicious treats such as homemade pies and cakes, and the Fine Food Hall selling unique ciders and gins along with chutneys, jams and much more.
“Cheese is still very much at the heart of Frome Show. The very first cheese fair occurred in 1861 and each year it has continued to grow and expand, with the final product being Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show as we now know it today.
“The show is in its 139th year and now has many other facets alongside the cheese. The Livestock Village is an extremely prominent aspect and has grown with the show’s success. Frome Show plays host to one of the largest cattle competitions in the UK, with over 100 cattle on site on show day, it is definitely a sight to behold. Let’s not forget to mention the sheep, dairy goats, pygmy goats and poultry, which are all also located in the Livestock Village.
“Speaking of animals, Frome Show is excited to announce the expansion of the Animal Nursery for this year’s show. There will be even more space to get up close and pet the reindeer, Shetland ponies, rabbits and small animals, and even reptiles.
“Frome Show provides entertainment for everyone. New this year there is the Lamb National! Hedge your bets as you watch Herdwick sheep negotiate around a race track and jump fences.
“Back by popular demand are the no.1 motorcycle stunt team, BoldDog Lings, who will be performing in the Village Green. There will also be 7.9 ft tall, Titan the Robot performing at the show, who has been on stage with the likes of Rihanna. The Dog Agility Ring provides entertainment for the whole family with spectacular dog demonstrations and competitions. This year there’s also a brilliant and comical Dog and Duck Show where you can watch how sheep dogs heard ducks.
“This is the year of the bake-off at Frome Show. This year organisers have been running a ‘Fit Farmers’ campaign; appealing to all local farmers to nominate themselves as a ‘fit-farmer’. The top three will then have to complete a cheese-themed bake-off in the Cheese Pavilion on show day. There will also be a celebrity bake-off (celebrities yet to be disclosed) and a student bake-off in the morning. So be sure to head down to the Cheese Pavilion to watch and support the bake-offs!
“Follow Frome Show on Facebook for the chance to win one of the fabulous prizes that are up for grabs in the weekly competitions running up to the show. Don’t forget Frome Show is also on Twitter and now Instagram too.
