A NEW exhibition that is designed to celebrate women going through menopause is currently underway at the Silk Mill Studios and Gallery.
Catrin Osborne, an artist originally from Westbury, has an exhibition of photographic portraits, interviews and video installations of over 75 women going through menopause, at the Silk Mill from Wednesday 11th May to Tuesday 17th May.
Catrin says that the aim of the exhibition is to celebrate women going through menopause, give them a voice, and to educate others going through it and those around them about it. The show is touring around the UK including London, Ramsgate, Brighton, Faversham, Rochdale, Whitstable, Sheffield and Cardiff as well as Frome and features women from all those areas.
On Friday 13th May, Bristol based poet and spoken word performer, Kat Lyons, will be performing an extract of their show about their experiences with menopause, entitled ‘Dry Season’.
For more information including times, contact the Silk Mill. The event is free.
Catrin said, “I’m excited to be bringing this exhibition to Frome. It is a collaboration with an artist based in Margate (Tindara Sidoti-McNary) who has made the video part of the exhibition.
“After experiencing a difficult menopause myself, I wanted to meet others and record their stories. The portraits, two of each woman, are taken in their ‘happy places’, and the interviews explore the positives and negatives that each woman experienced during menopause.”
There will be a bar and the exhibition will be open late.
