THE Librarian Theatre is returning to Somerset libraries, including Frome Library on 5th November, to perform their new play “Alice in the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
A UK-based theatre company, The Librarian Theatre, is committed to supporting libraries by creating innovative plays, specifically tailored to be performed among the bookshelves.
Alice in the Cuckoo’s Nest re–imagines Lewis Carroll’s classic story “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” incorporating elements of Ken Kesey’s novel “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. The play is in the setting of a modern day mental institution and explores the theme of psychosis.
Children aged 8 plus, accompanied by an adult are very welcome, but please note that this is not a children’s show as the production explores themes of mental health. The show lasts for approximately one hour with no interval.
Writer and actor Tom Cuthbertson from The Librarian Theatre said, “Hopefully audiences of all ages will take something away from the play, and it will help to fuel important conversations about mental health”.
Cllr David Hall, cabinet member for economy and resources at Somerset County Council, said “Somerset Libraries are delighted to be once again working in partnership with the Librarian Theatre. These events bring a professional theatre to the communities of Frome, Chard, Street and Yeovil helping to promote reading and literacy. We look forward to the story being brought to life.”
Tickets cost £7.50 or £4.50 for concessions (under 18s, students, Equity/BECTU members and registered disabled).

Somerset Libraries recently launched two new Wellbeing Zones in Yeovil and Taunton libraries. The Wellbeing Zones, which have been part funded by Somerset County Council’s Public Health team, provide a dedicated space in the library for people to access a range of health and wellbeing information and services.
