Formed in Scotland in 1981, Big Country have become a global phenomenon, scoring 17 Top 30 singles and achieving five gold and platinum status albums along the way; they will be appearing at the Cheese & Grain on Saturday 14th March.
Their back catalogue includes such songs as ‘Fields Of Fire’, ‘Chance’, ‘In A Big Country’, ‘East Of Eden’, ‘Look Away’ etc., along with massive selling albums ‘The Seer’, ‘Steeltown’, ‘Peace In Our Time’ and the triple Grammy-nominated ‘The Crossing’.
They achieved incredible success throughout the 80s with Number 1 singles, huge album sales, a Live Aid appearance and the first-ever privately promoted gig in Russia at the Moscow Sports Stadium amongst the highlights.
The 90s saw the release of further critically acclaimed albums and guest slots on the Rolling Stones ‘Voodoo Lounge’ and ‘Bridges To Babylon’ European tours as well as opening for Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. They have also appeared at countless festivals including Isle Of Wight, T In The Park, Cropredy, Oxegen, Pink Pop etc., as well as playing huge stadium gigs around the world.
With Bruce Watson and Mark Brezezicki still at the helm, the current line-up sees Derek Forbes (Simple Minds) on bass – recently voted Best Scottish Bass Player of all time – with Simon Hough on guitar and lead vocal duties, sounding uncannily like Stuart Adamson and Jamie Watson on guitar and vocals.
