Black Swan Arts’ new exhibition – ‘Connections’

BLACK Swan Arts is hosting a new exhibition by the Group 7 collective of artists on Saturday 19th November featuring paintings, prints, sculpture and drawings, with an emphasis on colour and abstraction.

This will include work by Brian Bishop, Martin Brewster, Bonnie Brown, Michelle Griffiths, Ursula Leach, Stephen Powell and Peter Symons. A preview will take place on Friday 18th November from 6pm to 8pm – everyone is welcome to come along.

There will also be an opportunity to ask the Group 7 artists questions about their ideas, inspiration, practice and processes on Sunday 4th December from 2pm to 3.30pm. Each member of Group 7 is an established artist with a distinct artistic practice and identity, but they all share common ground in the predominantly painterly language of colour and abstraction. The artists also share a mutual interest in the ability of marks, gestures and composition to communicate in their own right.

Although some work features recognisable landscape features, they are not literal representations: colours are changed, and shapes are simplified or flattened. The imagery developed by each artist, using their own creative process, results in forms with a unique visual energy that exist in a more intangible world. These actions and decisions in the making (and discovering) process constitute a clear connection between the group.

As well as exhibiting work together, Group 7 members exhibit individually in galleries across the UK, Europe and United States. Work by individual artists is also held in public, corporate and private collections and is included in numerous books and catalogues. The exhibition runs until 29 January 2023.
