THE Merlin Theatre has a packed calender of events and there’s something for everyone.
The entire family can enjoy a show full of thrills, spills, magic and mayhem with plenty of audience participation when Big Wooden Horse return to the Merlin with ‘Monstersaurus’ on Sunday 5th June at 3.00pm. Tickets are £7.50 and £5.50 and the show is suitable for three years and above.
On Thursday 9th June at 7.00pm, the Merlin has an encore screening of the National Theatre’s production of The Audience, starring Helen Mirren as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll. For sixty years, Queen Elizabeth II has met with each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a private weekly meeting. This meeting is known as The Audience. No one knows what they discuss, not even their spouses.
From the old warrior Winston Churchill, to the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair right up to today’s meetings with the current incumbent David Cameron, the Queen advises her Prime Ministers on all matters both public and personal. Through these private audiences, we see glimpses of the woman behind the crown and witness the moments that shaped a monarch.
A dramatic interpretation to celebrate the monarch’s 90th birthday. The running time is three hours including interval, ticket prices are £16 and £10.50 and recommended age is 12 plus.
The celebration of 400 years of Shakespeare continues with filmed theatre screenings from the RSC (Hamlet, on Friday 10th June) and Branagh Theatre Live’s production of Romeo and Juliet on Friday 8th July, featuring the young stars of ‘Cinderella’ as the romantic duo who come to a much less happy end.
Live productions include two outdoor productions on ECOS: ‘The Tempest’ on Friday 24th June from Quantum Theatre and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ from Illyria on Wednesday 20th July. Both ideal choices for open air theatre, so fingers crossed for good weather.
Live theatre screenings are £16 and £10.50 concessions, the two open air productions are £15 and £9.50, with family tickets available.
