Frome Town Council is exploring a funding opportunity to set up an electric bike hire scheme in Frome, and are appealing to local residents to share their opinions.
Under the proposed council scheme, electric bikes and potentially non-electric push bikes would be available for hire at key points in the town. This would link with the electric car club, run by the not-for-profit operator Co-Wheels who are trialling a similar scheme in Inverness.
Members could hire the bikes for as little as an hour or as long as 24 hours.
Anna Francis, Frome Town Council’s energy and recycling officer is exploring the scheme.
Anna said, “Frome is a brilliant place to cycle but the hills surrounding the town put many people off. We hope that by being able to borrow electric bikes when they need them, people will be able to nip into town or to the station or take a bike out for a day’s cycling on the excellent Sustrans routes. This will help to cut costs, pollution and increase well being.”
The council would like to hear what local people think of the idea. You can fill in the survey before Friday 12th June at: www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk or contact Anna on 01373 475574.
