FROME indulged its sweet tooth last month at the sixth annual Chocolate Festival, which saw over 1,700 people visit the extraordinary chocolate creations at the Cheese and Grain.
The one-day event took place on Sunday 22nd November. People came from far and wide to see a unique Dalek-inspired dress, a Curly Wurly stretching world record, and fun and games for all the family.
Festival spokesperson Jo Harrington said, “We’d like to thank the people of Frome for supporting us and helping to create such a wonderful ambience.
“Chocolate makes for an euphoric atmosphere; there was so many happy, smiling people visiting all day. We’re already planning next year which is going to have the theme Lucky 7.
“Without a doubt, the star attraction was the Dalek-inspired chocolate dress made by Claire Smith from A Little Piece and Love.
“This totally bonkers creation was worn by local dance teacher Soo Wright who, in a bizarre twist, revealed that her actor father starred in an early episode of ‘Dr Who’ and helped the Dr save the Earth!
“The dress was made with 22kgs of Fairtrade chocolate which not only looked amazing but smelt good enough to eat!
“History was made when Tracy Jane Sullivan broke her Curly Wurly Stretching World Record, achieving an outstanding 4m 26.2cm. This means the event and the Cheese & Grain will be in the record books again!”
Fairtrade Frome raised £111 with cupcake decorating, and Positive Action on Cancer raised £170 from a raffle.
Jo continued, “This year saw an increase in local companies from organic grower Charlies Chillies, fabulous brownies by A Man Called Sharon, Julia Flowerfield raw nut milks, artisan coffee roasted by Dusty Ape and the best Marimba hot chocolate from The River House. As ever, the event attracted award-winning companies from across the South West, showcasing the diversity of products that can be made with everyone’s favourite treat.”
