AT this time of escalating tension in Israel/Palestine, Frome Friends of Palestine are showing a film which they say goes some way in helping to explain the background to the conflict.
“The film Mayor is a compelling fly-on-the-wall documentary which follows the Mayor of Ramallah in Palestine as he deals with civic duty and Israeli oppression,” said the group.
“The mayor in question, Musa Hadid, is clearly a well-liked hands-on public servant. We see him pondering over city branding and checking on the abseiling Santas at the Christmas tree lights switch on. In some of the film’s more dramatic moments, we find him besieged in the city hall as he witnesses Israeli forces shooting at protesters.”
The film will be shown at 7.30pm on Tuesday 23rd May at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Trinity Street, Frome, BA11 3DE. Tickets at £4 are available via Eventbrite or on the door. Refreshments will be available.
