This September will welcome the fourth Frome Book Fair to be held at The Silk Mill on Saturday 1st, 10.00am-4.00pm.
The first fair in 2016 was organised by Karen Jakobsen, owner of Bond Books, who specialises in books on 20th century art. She felt that there was a need to bring quality antiquarian books to Frome, in keeping with the flavour and fashion of Frome for all things eclectic, and also noticed the cultural void left in Frome after the last antiquarian bookshop closed.
Now, two of the Frome Book Fair’s co-organisers, Peter Foster and Thais Brand, have recently opened The Frome Bookshop at 18 King Street Frome BA11 1BH, together with Noel Crack.
Part of the appeal of old books is that they can be frequently be bought at a price of less than half of a new one, often with a finer quality of print, binding and images and thus are a much greater pleasure to have and to hold.
The current fair will include 20 book sellers (and a bookbinder) covering a wide range of topics and interests ranging from art, military, illustrated, literature, children’s, architecture, travel, natural history, gardening and local history to prints, maps and curious leaflets. There will be many wonderful old books that will appeal to the enthusiastic collector, as well as plenty of affordable books.
This relaxed and friendly Fair includes a pop-up café with great coffee served from an old Citroen van by Claud the Butler, with plenty of parking nearby.
